The 2009 Gretna Heritage Festival is now part of the history books, and despite the fact that Sunday was dreary and rainy, I’m sure that another new attendance record must have been set. After spending 3 days on the festival grounds, I didn’t even come close to seeing or hearing everything, but I did get a really good sampling of food, music and fun.

NEW!   Mississippi River Parade Saturday, October 3rd
The City of Gretna is pleased to announce the Mississippi River Parade Saturday, October 3rd leaving Canal Street Dock at 1:00 p.m. The parade will commemorate the change in ferry route from the City of Gretna to the Canal Street Dock in cooperation with the Port of New Orleans Harbor Police as well as private tug board operators. Passengers will be able to board the ferry at Canal Street and enjoy a free river cruise complete with a jazz band. Passengers will then have the option to disembark and enjoy the wonderful Gretna Heritage Festival for a small fee of $10.00 per person.

Location
Located in historic downtown Gretna, LA the Gretna Heritage Festival encompasses approximately 25 city blocks.

Free parking and a free shuttle during the festival will be available at the Westside Shopping Center behind Academy Sporting Goods and at Oakwood Center in Terrytown. Pedestrians ride free on the Gretna-Canal Street ferry.

Musical Performers
Over 50 local and international acts, with headliners including Chicago, Kool & the Gang, Jo Dee Messina, The Guess Who, Louis Prima Jr. and Cowboy Mouth.

Music Schedule
Seven state-of-the-art sound stages with live music throughout the festival weekend. View and print the schedule.

Food Court
Dozens of local vendors in a giant dining tent will offer more than 100 dishes ranging from Vietnamese spring rolls to corn-crab bisque in a bread bowl and Cajun crawfish pasta.

German Beer Garden
The German Beer Garden kicks off the official opening of the Oktoberfest season. Music, authentic German food and beer by Friends of the German / American Cultural Center with local celebrities & elected officials.

Italian Village
The Festival's Italian Village features authentic Italian food & drinks and performances by Louis Prima, Jr., Bobby Lonero, and The Yat Pac

Arts & Crafts
More than 80 arts and crafts booths selling jewelry, paintings, pottery and blown glassware.

Carnival Rides And Games
The Gretna Heritage Festival presents exciting carnival rides & games for wholesome family fun. A Pay-One-Price special is available Friday and Sunday.
